B. He stood one in a corner and unrolled the other and showed
out
it to us. On it he pointed/the flagstaff (Naval) and the con-
crete road leading up to Mount Davis Battery: he pointed out
on it the two guns which are now mounted and which I now know
to be Nos 1 and 2 and told us to follow on beyond them till
we camw to a group of matsheds on our left, and said "Your R.E.
are quartered about 20 yards beyond that".
I noticed the positions of three other guns marked by
circles on the plan and I now know them to be those of Nos 3,
4, and 5 guns. The plan had also marked on it the shelters
which I now know to be the 48 and 42 men's shelters, and the
artillery store near No. 1 gun. The concrete road was shown
as far as the 48 men's shelter.
water tank beyond the 32 men's shelter on the plan.

The plan was about 5' by 4' and included as far as I can
remember, the coast line from the end of the tram line Kennedy
Tówn to beyond the inlet south of Mount Davis as shown me on
a 2* map of Hong Kong by Major Pyne.
The other plan was never unrolled by him, but it seemed
to be about the same size, and was marked "Devil's Peak" on
the outside. He seemed to know a good many things that were
going on at Mount Davis, among others that the Artillery were
going to open a canteen (this canteen was opened on the 12th
instant,) and informed us that he had been an officer in the
German Artillery. He spoke with a German accent. His name
*Herr Hermann" was marked on the notice board of the bungalow.
